Information hub
Acting as an information hub has been one of SQR’s key roles in the affected community since operations began, connecting local and international offers of aid with those who need it most.
As the recovery process moves into the mid-term phase, SQR is committed to the collection and dissemination of information related to post-quake recovery and social development in Sichuan. It is through visiting affected areas and talking to local officials, organisations and residents that we keep up-to-date with the genuine issues and concerns facing the people of Sichuan, at the grassroots level.
The information that we gather is boosted by further research carried out on the Internet and through follow-up telephone conversations, written up in both Chinese and English and published freely on our website, for the benefit of local and international groups, media, and the general public.
It allows SQR to design projects, connects other relevant organisations to people and places that are of interest to their particular field of development, and informs the media and public of the continuing repercussions of the disaster.
Recent trips and follow-up research have resulted in the following information:
- Reconstruction progress in Jinhua Town, Mianzhi
- The Spirit of China organisation and Santai Orphan School
- Reconstruction progress in Yanyan Village
- Village schools still struggling to be rebuilt
