Prince Andrew at the Chengdu Bookworm for an SQR presentation
His Royal Highness the Duke of York – or Prince Andrew visited Sichuan on 4th and 5th November 2008, possibly the first visit to Sichuan by a member of the British Royal Family.
The Duke is the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment and toured a resettlement camp and a temporary school, chatted with earthquake survivors and commemorated the victims at the earthquake memorial site in Dujiangyan. He also met the Governor of Sichuan Province and British businesses. At the Bookworm, the Duke was given a short presentation by SQR volunteers and then led a Q and A session. He finally attended the Queen’s Birthday Party reception, organised by the Consulate to wind up the whole campaign in Sichuan.
